Take-off What If?

Why are they spraying the plane with a colorful liquid?

Short answer: It is de-icing fluid to ensure perfect aerodynamics.

Aircraft wings need to be perfectly smooth to generate lift. In winter, crews spray hot, orange fluid to melt ice, and thick, green fluid to prevent new ice from forming while we taxi. As we speed down the runway, the green fluid magically turns thin and blows right off the wing. It guarantees the plane lifts off effortlessly. It is a sign that the safety protocols are working perfectly.
